Applications and appeals

Applications and appeals to the Tribunal can be made by professionals, by patients or by Named Persons. A solicitor may make an application on behalf of a patient or named person.

The Tribunal holds hearings to decide applications and appeals made to it. Incidental decisions while a case is progressing, such as changing the arrangements for a hearing or appointing a curator ad litem, can be made by a single convener working in the Tribunal’s office.

Appeals against decisions of the Tribunal are made to a court.

For information regarding patient choice and types of hearing, please see the Hearings page.
